United Airlines’ Elevated Interior on the Boeing 787: An Exciting Debut

by Krish Patel

United is debuting an all-new Polaris cabin on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a significant milestone for the airline’s long haul Business Class product. The Elevated 787s are the airline’s most premium-heavy jet so far, with a total of 99 premium seats (including Premium Plus), including 56 Suites and 8 of the coveted Polaris Studios. These new jets are equipped with plenty of upgraded amenities that will surely enhance the passenger experience on long haul itineraries.

The Polaris Studios are situated in the bulkhead rows of each Business Class cabin, offering 25% more space than the standard Polaris Suites. Amenities in the studio seats include a 27-inch OLED entertainment monitor, a buddy seat (except for seats 1D and 1F), and enclosed storage drawer. Both the studio and standard suites can convert into a double bed and feature privacy doors, though the doors will not close on initial flights due to certification requirements.

Polaris Suites in the center section angle towards each other, while those in the rear Business Class cabin face the aisle. If you’re traveling as a couple, the seats in the forward section are more ideal since they face each other.

In between the two cabins is a walk-up snack bar, where you can expect snacks and drinks on long-haul flights. However, the aircraft’s first flights will not feature the snack bar service because it will serve the route between San Francisco and Houston for crew-familiarization purposes. The first international flight will take place on April 22, 2026 from SFO to Singapore, before the service to London Heathrow commences on April 30.

United’s Elevated 787-9 Dreamliner serves as the carrier’s new flagship aircraft, which will first be based out of their San Francisco hub. The new Polaris cabin serves as a much-needed refresh for the existing product, with bells and whistles such as sliding doors and upgraded technology. As someone based near United’s Newark hub, I can’t wait for these planes to start flying to EWR.
