Delta’s Sleek and Brand New Sky Club in Atlanta
by Krish Patel
Not too long ago, an all-new airport lounge for Delta Air Lines opened in Atlanta. The airport received its newest Delta Sky Club Lounge in almost a decade. As Delta’s headquartered city and largest hub, the new Sky Club will allow a greater capacity, making this Delta’s largest lounge in ATL. Additionally, this is the first-ever Delta lounge in Atlanta with the airline’s new club design concepts.
Delta Sky Club ATL Location and Access
The new Sky Club is in Concourse D, which handles a lot of domestic Delta flights. It can be found near gate D18 and very close to the Plane Train escalator. The Plane Train is an airside train system in Atlanta that connects all of the airport's concourses.
Delta’s new Sky Club entrances look very stunning, with this one being no exception. I’m a huge fan of the dark wooden paneling that feels so modern and elevated.
There are many ways to access the Sky Club in Atlanta, with the primary methods being listed below:
Delta One (International Business Class)
International First/Business Class on a SkyTeam partner
Purchase a Sky Club membership ($695 for individual membership or $1,495 for executive membership)
Delta SkyMiles Reserve Amex Card (15 annual visits)
The Platinum Card from American Express (10 annual visits)
Only the primary cardholders will receive complimentary lounge access. Additional guests cost $50 per person.
Delta Sky Club ATL Seating, Layout, and Amenities
After entering the club, you’re greeted by the reception space that comes outfitted with two front desks and several self-serve kiosks. The locally-inspired art is very stunning and makes the lounge feel very unique. It’s one of my favorite touches in Delta Sky Clubs. You can take either the staircase (which is very long) or the elevator to reach the seating area.
Upon reaching the main level of the Sky Club, you’ll immediately notice two desks staffed with Delta customer service agents. There’s also a long wooden conference table, hanging above which is a stunning light fixture. I didn’t see many people using the conference table during my visit.
The Sky Club is a massive rectangle measuring at 24,500 square feet and is packed with comfortable seating. There are several furniture variants in the club that are suitable for every type of traveler, whether you’re looking to work alone or relax with others. You’ll also find a few couches throughout the lounge that come decked out in a striped blue and gray pattern.
Aviation enthusiasts will surely appreciate the floor-to ceiling windows lining the edges of the lounge, since they provide excellent aircraft views. You’re able to spot several Delta jets at the D Gates and the neighboring concourses as well.
Towards the center of the lounge, the ceiling adopts a southern barn-inspired design, with dark brown wooden fixtures. There are also several shelves stocked with living room decor and coffee table books. In the center section of the Sky Club, the seating adopts a restaurant-style design, with two to three chairs shared by a circular table. The chairs in the center section adopt mixed tones of blue and brown.
The opposite side of the space has some more artwork and furniture options, including lounge chairs, high-top bar tables, and comfortable couches. It’s very similar to the seating area you’ll notice upon entry.
Towards the back of the lounge is a mini theater space that is equipped with a TV running some sports and news programs. Near the theater area is the business center. It includes several Framery phone booths and a bar table for getting some work done.
There’s one set of restrooms in the lounge that feel very swanky and elevated compared to many other airport restrooms, even those in lounges. Inside, it was very clean and modern thanks to the white marble counters and wooden stall doors. I also loved the sconce lighting around the mirror and Grown Alchemist hand soap by the sink.
While these bathrooms are among the nicest I’ve seen in a Sky Club, I wish that this new outpost had showers. You’ll have to make a trip to the clubs in either Concourse E or F, which are used for Delta’s long haul international flights. Besides showers, this lounge is also lacking a Sky Deck. Aside from the new lounge in Atlanta, most of the airline’s other signature Sky Clubs have one.
Delta Sky Club ATL Food and Drink
Delta Sky Clubs have much better food and drink options than the average U.S. airport lounge, featuring locally inspired dishes.
There’s a buffet found towards the front of the lounge, with identical serving stations on either side. This is done to reduce a long queue for getting food. Lunch and dinner dining options include mixed greens, corn salad, pasta salad, roasted vegetables, sandwiches, and rice. Of course, you’ll also find a selection of charcuterie and various desserts, both of which are a staple in many Sky Clubs. The presentation of each of the dishes at the buffet looks very appetizing and delicious.
I love the tiled mural right behind the buffet, which is locally inspired by the city of Atlanta and its large tree population.
The focal point of the Sky Club is the central bar, which separates both sides of the lounge and features plenty of barlike seating. There’s a full display of various wine bottles on the bar’s shelves, as well as two TVs. All of the non-alcoholic drinks in the lounge are complimentary, but certain premium alcoholic beverages are available for purchase in either cash or SkyMiles.
Right behind the bar and buffet is a dining area complete with several restaurant-style chairs and circular dining tables. There’s also a self-serve drink station with two Eversys coffee machines and a flavored water dispenser.
Found at the opposite side of the lounge is another beverage station that also features self-serve coffee machines, flavored water, and a soda fountain. This drink station is slightly larger than the one found in the dining area and features more beverage options.
Overall Thoughts
Delta’s new Sky Club in Atlanta is a major improvement for the airline in their largest hub. Its modern atmosphere and comfortable seating make this a space you’re not going to want to miss out on. Delta has heavily invested into this new lounge that is set to make passengers forget they’re traveling through the world’s busiest airport, ATL.
