American Airlines Flagship Suites to be Inaugurated Next Month

by Krish Patel

For a few years now, American has had plans to introduce the Flagship Suites as its new Business Class product. Recently, the airline has taken delivery of its two newest Boeing 787-9s that feature the suites and the flights operated by these jets are now on sale.

American Airlines Premium 787-9 Routes

American’s new 787-9Ps are the first two wide body planes that the company has received in almost two years. The Dreamliners are registered N845MD and N846AN and are currently at the airline’s largest hub in Dallas (DFW). Both planes are set to enter service on June 5, 2025.

On the morning of June 5, the American 787-9P’s inaugural flight will be held from Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Los Angeles (LAX) as flight AA2012 and return back to Chicago as flight AA2321. That night, it will operate its first long haul flight from O’Hare to London Heathrow. American connects the two cities three times daily, and the airline will deploy its new 787s on all of the three flights beginning July 6, 2025.

In the later summer months and in the fall of 2025, American will launch these jets on the following flights:

  • AA728 from Philadelphia (PHL) to London (LHR) beginning August 6

  • AA92 from Philadelphia (PHL) to Zurich (ZRH) beginning September 3

  • AA7 from Dallas (DFW) to Brisbane (BNE) beginning October 26

How to Book Flights in American Airlines New Business Class

Determining whether your American 787-9 flight will have the Flagship Suites is simple. Next to the flight you’re considering booking, the aircraft type will state 78P instead of 789. The premium 787s also feature a larger Business Class cabin with 51 suites, opposed to the 30 Business seats on American’s current 787-9s.

Using AAdvantage miles to book Flagship Business Class on American Airlines is probably the most convenient way to book using points and miles. However, using other OneWorld loyalty programs to book is also possible. For example, it would be great to book through Alaska MileagePlan using your Alaska miles since one-way Business Class awards start at 35,000 miles between ORD and LHR. Plus, Alaska has an award chart for partner airlines, unlike AA, who uses dynamic pricing for their awards.

Conclusion

American Airlines is introducing the Flagship Suites inflight very soon, which will enhance the Business Class experience with a more private and spacious seat. Seats on the new 787-9Ps are available for sale and will eventually be offered on more flights that see the Dreamliner.
